FHA HR Knowledge Sharing and Networking Forum 2019
FHA Sub Committee for HR conducted the ‘FHA Knowledge Sharing and Networking’ Session on 15 March 2019 at the ‘Winchester Hall’ of Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo from 2.30 pm onwards.
The Knowledge Sharing session started at 3.00 pm with the ceremonially opening and welcome speech by the Chairman of FHA HR Sub Committee Mr. Prasad Udugampola. The purpose of the event was explained by Mr. Roshan Abeygoonewardena , Chairman of, The Finance Houses Association of Sri Lanka. 75 participants including HR Managers, Heads of HR representing the FHA member companies participated for this event.
The main item of the agenda was panel discussion covering the areas on ‘CEOs’ expectation from the HR as a business partner’, HR positioning in the boardroom’, Latest HR trends and Best HR practices’, and ‘key challengers faced in the industry’.
About SCC
The Sub Committee for Compliance of The Finance Houses Association of Sri Lanka (“SCC”) was set up in April 2018 with the objective of sharing experiences, knowledge and to resolve common challenges faced by compliance officers of NBFI in a more effective manner and to enhance the regulatory compliance among NBFI, which would in-turn support betterment of the industry and aspire objectives of the regulators.
The membership of SCC comprises of the ex-officio Compliance Officers of LFC’s which are members of the Finance Houses of Association of Sri Lanka and has 45 members as at 31st January 2019.
The functions of the SCC is managed through an Executive Committee appointed by its members. The details of the current Executive Committee is given below in (D).
The SCC has carried out the following activities from its inception in April 2017 TO DATE:
highlighted concerns of the members in relation to the direction on Financial Customer Protection Framework to CBSL and requested for an extension on the implementation date of the Direction and to reconsider certain provision in the said Direction which are impractical/unfavorable to the Industry.
Drafting the Terms of Reference of SCC
Organizing demonstrations for three vendors to present their products to the members in relation to System Requirement Specifications for AML/CFT
Organizing a demonstration for one vendor to present their products to the members in relation to customer screening solutions.
Drafting Standard KYC forms
Circulation of UN sanctions lists (UNSCR 1373 ) in Excel format to all members
Drafting reporting structures on AML/CTF to the Board of Directors of LFC’s in line with in the Section 8(3)(h) of the Finance Companies (Corporate Governance) Direction No. 03 of 2008 and in the Section 12 of the Financial Institutions (Customer Due Diligence) Rules, No. 1 of 2016

Drafting a format for a Compliance Policy
The SCC has carried out the following trainings from its inception in April 2017 to date:
Training on Finance Business Act Directions No. 03 of 2018 – Capital Adequacy Requirements Training was carried out by Officials of Central Bank of Sri Lanka
Training on practical issues faced by Compliance Officers was carried out by Mr. R.M.P Ratnayake, retired AGM Risk and Compliance, of Cargills Bank
Compliance Symposium The Compliance Symposium was held in December 18 covering the following topics
Role of NBFI in the context of financial stability
Challenges in implementing AML/CFT regulations
Creating an effective compliance culture for sustainable business growth
Data Privacy and emerging technology
A total of 135 participated at this event including several senior Central Bank Officials. Mr. H.A Karunaratne, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Power of Influencing by Mr. Sanjeev Rajaratnam This active training session was focused on the following aspects
Communication: How to use verbal / para verbal / non-verbal communication aspects to increase your power of influence
